OUGD405 TYPOGATEUX

The brief for Typogateux was to create a cake either in groups or on our own. In my group I worked with Abi Nelson and Sarah Goldthorpe.
We all did our own research to this brief then came together with ideas.
These are some images I gathered that helped gather ideas.
Unfortunatley due to circumstances out of my control i had lost all my research images before i put them on my blog however here is some more.

During Sarahs research she had found some cup cake holders that were like Tea Cups so we came up with the concept of Tea and Cake, We decided to buy the tea cake cup holders for our typogateux.

With the concept of Tea and Cake in mind we needed to come up with an idea of how we could get this concept to fit the brief. We decided that we didnt just want to create a cake that had letters on it so we came up with the idea of maybe putting the tea cups in the shapes of letters. As you didnt get many in a box and still with needing to buy ingredients we couldnt buy any extra cupcake holders as this was out of our budget. So having a select few in some aspects was harder but enabled us to be a lot more simplistic. Therefore we decided after playing around with the layout that having them in the shape of a letter 'T' would be easiest.

Due to the fact that it was coming up to christmas, we wanted our cakes to be quite festive therefore when thinking about ingredients we brainstromed ideas suuch as mulled wine, warm spices, brandy, orange, cranberrys etc. Then i thought about maybe creating an apple and cinamon cakes, it was nothing too out of the norm yet was quite experimental to do.

As many hot drink lovers would tell you that, you tend to get quite a lot of frothy cream on top of your drink, squirted in a certain way would replicate a christmass tree, basically killing two birds with one stone. Christmas theme and Tea theme. However we couldnt use squirty cream on our cakes as it wouldnt stay so we would have to use a piping back and icing. We decided to use lemon buttercream icing.

Sarah designed the tags that would welcome people to our submission. As i had no involvement with the actual design process of this, i dont have any research for it. However these were the finalised tags, which we were all very pleased about.

Baking Day

This was the end result, which we were all very happy about. Even though they hadnt come out as well as we had expected with regards to the decorating side, we were still pleased. Rather then having a christmas tree icing shape, due to not having enough icing and no time to buy any more we went with the option of having a more coffee cream look about it, with red edible glitter, white stars and the edible hollie on the top as the focal theme to christmas.

They didnt taste too bad aswell....
