Postcards in Photoshop
Triangle
After having two photoshop inductions we were all given individual shapes that we had to then find and capture. At the time however I didnt have a suitable camera so i used my mobile phone, where the quality isnt great. I went around the college and took photos of objects that looked like triangles. I wanted a combination of images that were man made and shapes that looked like triangles depending on the angle that you stood at. Below are the contact sheets of the images i had taken. I made the contact sheets in photoshop from what we had learnt in the induction.
contact sheet 1
Contact sheet 2
Contact Sheet 3
When creating my postcards I didnt have a theme to them other then Triangles, I wanted to show a range of experimental photoshop techniques, that i could use and from my results i think i did that quite well. I believe that as im not used to using photoshop i found this hard which is why it was important to me to play around to see what different things did and the outcomes were quite successful, some more then others. However i think it shows off the range of experiments well.
Postcard 1
This postcard was created by duplicating the layers that the original image was on, from contact sheet 3. I found this image on the windows within the college. Firstly i placed the image onto the already sized up design board (A5), rasterized the layer to a smart object to allow me to edit it, and played with the levels and curves, i then duplicated the layer 3 times and lowered the opacity and placed them overlapping eachother. I darkened some of the parts using the burn tool. This was the end result that im quite pleased about.
Postcard 2
Out of my 5 images i think this would be my favourite, Again i pretty much did the same as the first one however i played with sizing and rotating, to create the illusion looking image to the left. I again played with contrast, levels, and curves. Which resulted in the bottom part of the image darker then the top.

Postcard 3
I had taken a photo of the letter 'A' because of the tiangle shaped in the middle where the crossbar goes accross both stems. I had used the lassoo tool, then select inverse to delete the back ground from the A. I used the burn tool to darken the edges and then duplicated the layers. I then went on to lowering the opacity and started to place more A's on top to create a criss cross look about it.

Postcard 4
This was done by similarly to the above image however i played with the colour techniques the most to desaturate the colours to make them look cold. Along some of the strands i used the burn tool to darken some areas to give it definition. I then contined to layer and layer the same image on top, some roatated, some just moved slightly. It gives the postcard a glossy spider web effect.I find that colours look really intriguing. Especially when it looks like it is textured.

Postcard 5
Id say that this postcard was very different to the other four, purely because here i used two difffernt images, where the triangles in them are quite subtle. I started off by placing my image but enlarging it so the triangle was more of the focal point. This resulting in the majority of the image coming off the art board, but i didnt mind as i thought it was jus gettin rid of wastage which then allowed me to place another image on there too. I used the lassoo tool to inverse and cut the backgorund out. I then places the other image on the art board i had to make sure that the first image was the top layer. The back ground image i played with curves and contrasts etc and then lowered the opacity so it was faded. I then used the blur tool to blur the edges of the top image so it didnt look too out of place.
Back of the postcards
The back of my post card would just be like the orignal postcard look. I think that designs are too over the top already to place something on the back. If i had done this then it would probably look too much so by keeping it simple avoids that situation.
